Be a blacksmith for half a day, a day or come back for more!

Thank you to everyone that has come along and tried out being a ‘Blacksmith for a Day‘ I’m delighted with how you have enjoyed the experience (and how much I have enjoyed teaching you).

I’ve decided to create some more options for courses, which I hope will mean that even more of you are inspired to come along and try your hand.  I’ve also created an option for those that have previously attended, and want to come back and play some more!

NEW:  Half day experiences – on either week day or weekends (Saturdays only at present).  The price is £80 pp for a weekday and £90 pp for a weekend slot – these half-day sessions are only available to people booking the two slots together – so find a willing friend and do something a little different.  They run from 9.30am to 1pm (ish).

NEW: Return to the forge days!  This is open to anyone that has been on a forge course before and wants to come back and try their hand at something else, or work on a specific project – this time there will be less supervision than on your first visit (but I will be on hand to advise of course).  Week days only at present – cost £100 per person (no more than two people on any one day to allow exclusive use of the forge)!

Full day courses on weekdays or Saturdays are available to book per person – £175 and £195 respectively (if you book both places you will receive a significant discount (£300 for 2 on weekdays, £325 for 2 on weekends).

Coming soon – Gift Boxes!  Most of you were booked onto your blacksmith experience for a special treat – so I’m in the process of designing a Gift Box that can be purchased on booking – providing the option of  something special to give to a loved one, which depicts a little of what they might get up to on a course!

Hope to see you at the forge soon (or welcome you back again)

Jo Fry

Burned, blistered and blown away!

Hi Jo

Good to have met you yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and the evidence of my craftmanship is shown here in sepia glory.

Thanks for your expertise, patience and guidance throughout the day. All of my senses were in flashback to when I started work in the late 60s.

I would genuinely recommend the experience to anybody as your teaching style and patience would not preclude anyone from having a rewarding and stimulating day.

Last night our newly manufactured candlestick illuminated the front room.. and as I sat in a flickering light of pride, I thought. “Yep… I made that!”

Great news also… Having refitted it, the repair to the cast iron leg appears to be holding up. Exposure to weight will be gradual… starting with any passing salesman or Inland revenue inspectors who stray to my door!

The toasting fork is yet to be used, but is in prime position for the first open fire of Winter.

Thanks again Jo… As I wrote on Facebook last night. “Burned, Blistered and Blown Away!!”

Very Best Regards

Inspiration in Venice!

Testimonials that make you smile!

Hi Jo,

Just a quick email to say thank you very much for welcoming us to the forge on Friday, we had a brilliant day.
I thought the course was pitched just right and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. As I mentioned on the day, I had done a few other similar courses in different crafts and I can honestly say i enjoyed yours the most. I thought you did a brilliant job of explaining things clearly, and balanced helpful comments/pointers, with giving me space to have a go at it really well. As someone who had little idea of what it is to work with metal, the course was appealing, and I feel it totally delivered. It gave a great insight into working in the forge and I felt that your openness and nature really helped in making the processes and techniques accessible to a layman.

Thanks once again for a memorable day and the best of luck with the continuation of courses going forward.

Kind regards,

Making a toasting fork!
